Converting Data to HDF5

Hierarchical Data Format is your new best friend

Event Details:

Wednesday, August 14, 2024
1:00pm - 2:00pm PDT

Hierarchical Data Format, version 5 (HDF5) is a high-performance, portable, self-describing data format. If your research produces (or requires as inputs) lots of directories and small data files, HDF5 can significantly improve your compute performance.

HDF5 organizes and consolidates your research data into a handful of easy-to-manage file objects. HDF5 files are cross-platform and portable, feature fast I/O, and support unlimited collection sizes. It is open-source, easy to use, and has an enthusiastic user base.

This workshop will focus on implementation in Python, but the general principles apply across multiple platforms.
