Winter Closure

Main content start

The last day of normal Stanford Research Computing support is Friday, December 20

The team will be back on Monday, January 6, 2025. Any tickets submitted during Winter Closure will be addressed then.

To submit a Research Computing ticket during Winter Closure, email srcc-support@stanford.edu

Our Slack channels will not be monitored by staff during the break, but you may be able to find peer-to-peer support there.

All systems and clusters are expected to be available throughout Winter Closure. Research Computing staff will be on-call in the event of a catastrophic outage; however, recovery time may be hampered by limited availability from our vendor partners.

Access to Research Data Centers (SRCF & RCF)

During Winter Closure, SRCF will be operating in "lights-out" mode, and staffing at Forsythe will be minimal to non-existent.  Security will be heightened.

Authorized individuals can access the data centers if an emergency situation requires it.

Do not perform any non-essential work, or any heavy work, during Winter Closure!

SRCF

As a Department of Energy National Lab that is operated by the University, SLAC is also closed during Winter Closure.  Access will only be available at the Main Gate (the SLAC Alpine Gate will be closed). Contact SLAC Security Operations before your trip if you need to authorize vendor access or have questions.

If your SLAC badge has expired, you will be denied entry.

If you have access problems during Winter Closure, contact Darren Travis directly for assistance.

RCF

Forsythe access will be available via the usual methods.

Packages

Do not receive any large packages or shipments during Winter Closure.

SLAC Shipping & Receiving, and the Forsythe loading dock, will be closed during Winter Closure.  Carriers will not be able to deliver packages during that time; if you are expecting a package, check with your carrier to see if they will hold it.

For small parts, you should consider having them shipped to an alternate address, such as a FedEx Office or UPS Store for pickup.
